Tips & Tricks

What to eat before a wedding dress fitting

So you’ve decided on the dress of your dreams and your designer is working away crafting your showstopper gown, which means there will have to be a few fittings. First of all – can we get a big round of applause? You’ve already made one of the biggest choices you need to make in the lead-up to your Big Day, and now you get to enjoy the process as the magic unfolds.

To ensure that you enjoy every fitting to the best of your ability, we thought we’d share a few nutrition tips. After all, you want to be feeling your absolute gorgeous best when you step into your gown for those fittings, and this means maintaining a happy weight, so you don’t have to make major alterations to your dress too close to the wedding. Here are a few ways to do so:

Eat regular, balanced meals

The best way to keep your weight stable is to have regular, balanced meals. When we skip meals or don’t stick to regular mealtimes, our blood sugar fluctuates, leading to mood crashes and wild cravings. Instead, make sure that you enjoy well-balanced meals that combine lean proteins, healthy fats and quality carbohydrates. Focus on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, chicken, fish, avocados, oatmeal, quinoa and plain, low-fat dairy.

Take your cravings in hand

Are those left-over fajitas in the fridge calling your name? Or perhaps there is certain chocolate out there with your name on it? Take your cravings in hand by stalling. Set a timer on your phone for two minutes and take the time to think things over. Perhaps you could persuade your taste buds to settle for a nice cold glass of water with a slice of lemon, or a nice cup of rooibos tea with a small teaspoon of honey?

Rest well & stay hydrated

We tend to overeat when we’re tired, dehydrated or stressed. When you don’t get enough quality sleep at night your body will send you ‘low energy’ signals, that many of us try to remedy with sugary foods or caffeinated drinks. Similarly, we often confuse thirst signals with hunger signals. Make sure that you are getting to bed at a decent time, and drink at least 2L of water per day to keep your body on an even keel.

There you have it – a few top nutrition tips to ensure that you feel great when you go for your wedding dress fittings.
